Zimbabwe: Chiduku Buried

8 July 2009

Harare — HUNDREDS of people yesterday thronged Glen Forest Cemetery in Harare to pay their last respects to the Secretary for Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs Ms Margaret Chiduku who died last Friday.

Speaker after speaker described Ms Chiduku as a selfless, humble, confident and intelligent person.

In her graveside speech, Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe, who represented Government, said the nation had been robbed of a person who could have contributed immensely to the crafting of the new constitution.

"We have lost a person who was dedicated to her work and in meetings we attended together you could see that she knew what she was doing. We want her family to know that we are mourning together as a nation," she said.

Justice and Legal Affairs Minister Patrick Chinamasa, who worked with Ms Chiduku since 1999, described her as a selfless and dedicated person who always put the nation before self.

President Mugabe, and the offices of Vice Presidents Joseph Msika and Joice Mujuru, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and Deputy Prime Ministers Khupe and Arthur Mutambara sent flowers to the Chiduku family.

Ms Chiduku's father, Mr Basil Chiduku, thanked Government for its support in their time of bereavement.
