Abuja — Parents, guardians and all those associated with the Federal Government Girls College, Bwari, Abuja, turned out in their large numbers, last week, for what turned out to be a colourful 21st Annual Speech Day and Prize-giving Ceremony for the 2008/2009 graduating students.
The Principal, Mrs. Maria Okwulehie said the students' academic performance had improved over time, even in the midst of daunting challenges.
While presenting the report of the students' academic performance, the Principal commended them for their high performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) and Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) by WAEC and NECO, respectively.
She said, "the lesson I would like my out-going girls to learn is that stardom and excellence is achievable early in life through focus, hard work and clear mission that does not succumb to momentary setbacks", stressing that, "most of life's setbacks are momentary."
The Minister of State for Education, Hajiya A'ishatu Jibril Dukku, who was represented by Mrs. Ann Okonkwo reiterated the federal government's effort and commitment to enhancing the prospects of unity schools in the country, in line with global trends.
At the presentation of awards, Rebbeca Magaji emerged the best student in the WASSCE, while Ijeoma Onwubuachi was the best in the NECO SSCE, Other top performers in both examinations were Precious Orbunde, Aminat Amodu, Chinenye Okoro and Oluyemi Adunoye.
