Ilorin — President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua would pay a working day visit to Kwara state on 27th July, 2009 to commission the multi million naira Ganmo Power Station in Ifelodun Local Government council area of the state.
The construction of the power station was started by the immediate administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. It was however abandoned and later took over by the Kwara State Government with the intent of completing the project for the benefit of the people of the state. This followed the epileptic power supply that had been affecting the people of the state over a period of time.
The power station which has been energised in the past few months in the state had led to dramatic changes in the socio-economic growth of the state as many artisans that had left their workshops to ride Okada have since returned as a result of constant power supply in the state.
Also, there was massive reduction in the cost of production of local manufacturing industries based in the state due to the improvement in the current power supply in the state.
A statement issued in Ilorin yesterday by the state Commissioner for Information and Communi-cations, Hon. Ben Duntoye, said that the commissioning of the project would go a long way of accelerating the socio-economic growth of the state.
The statement said that apart from this, the project has remained a major breakthrough in the quest of the present administration to realise the seven-point agenda in the area of power generation. While calling the people of the state to come out enmasse to welcome the number one citizen of the country, Duntoye called on the people of the state to cooperate with the security enforcement agencies who will be around to make the visit a remarkable success.
