Eritrea: Preparations in Full Swing to Colorfully Celebrate Eritrea Festival 2009 At National Level

Asmara — Preparations are in full swing to colorfully celebrate Eritrea Festival 2009 that would be held at the Expo grounds from July 31 to August 9 at the national level.

The head of the national holidays coordinating committee office, Mr. Gideon Fisehaye, stressed the paramount importance of the Festival in reflecting and reinforcing the people's political and cultural identity. He indicated that this year's festival would feature zonal sites highlighting infrastructural and economic development in the respective regions, works of sculpture and innovations staged by youths, as well as cultural shows of the country's 9 ethnic groups, besides as an educational site in which all the regional administrations would present their performance.

Mr. Gideon further explained that various works of handcraft, songs competition, debating, folk dances, poetry recital, writing contests and others would take place in the course of the event.

Meanwhile, different entertainment and educational programs focusing on children would be staged, he added. The institutions of higher education would also stage shows in an expanded manner in which institutions that are making due contribution in the Warsay-Yikaalo Development Campaign would highlight their respective activities. Preparations are also underway to put in place the necessary services such as transport, telephone and first-aid services, according to reports.
