Katsina — To help bring health care services closer to the people, Katsina State Government has constructed seven new comprehensive Health Centres at a cost of N546 million in the state.
The seven comprehensive Health centres were constructed at Sabuwa, Safana, Daura, Funtua, Dandume, Dutsin-ma and Danmusa local government areas of the state.
The State Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Aminu Jamo Daura, who disclosed this during the weekly ministerial briefing in Katsina, said the centres were constructed through the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency.
Similarly, Jamo maintained that the Agency has up-graded eleven existing Primary Health centres to the status of comprehensive centres in Kafur, Charanchi, Bindawa, Mashi, Mai'adua, Batagarawa, Kusada, Danja, Kaita, Matazu and Faskari local government areas of the state.
The Commissioner added that the agency has also completed the construction of two comprehensive Health Care Centres in Jani and Rimaye Villages in Mani and Kankia local government areas respectively.
In addition, he stated that the four Maternal and Child Health Clinics in Katsina have been renovated, while the sum of N16 million was committed for the provision of office accommodation at the EPID unit; and another N44 million was also spent in the provision of office equipment, purchase of ambulances and two Toyota Hilux vehicles for effective operations.
On free medical drugs, Jamo posited that government has approved the sum of N15 million on quarterly basis for the purchase of drugs and consumable for the free medicare scheme in the state, while another N20 million has been set-aside for the Drugs Resolving Fund Scheme in Comprehensive healthcare Centres across the state.
In order to fully equip both the new and upgraded comprehensive Health centres, the Commissioner said the state government has procured hospital and medical equipment worth about N260 million.
These equipment has listed include OPD, Ward, Dental, Theatre, Laboratory, X-ray, surgical instruments and furniture, adding that most of the equipment have already been received and distributed to the different centres across the state.
On the activities of immunisation, Jamo noted that appreciable progress has been made, and explained that immunisation centres has increased from 549 centres to 1,310 centres, and coverage from 28 per cent to 80 per cent as at August, last year in the state.
