Lokoja — As part of his on-going efforts to sanitise the State's Public and Civil Service which has been enmeshed in corrupt practices, Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, yesterday sacked nine commissioners and suspended 20 accountants in various ministries, boards and extra-ministerial departments.

The governor had earlier suspended 19 accountants. Though no official reasons had been given for their removal, THISDAY gathered that their sack may not be unconnected with interim report of Messrs Sally Tibot, the consultant engaged by the state government to conduct staff audit and salary verification in the state.

As at the time of filing this report, five of the nine commissioners had been served their sack letters while the remaining four were yet to pick their letters as they were said to be lobbying frantically to reverse their sack.

Among those who had already been served their sack letters were the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Timothy Omora and the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Albert Adesina Soje who was the imeediate past Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly.

Others are the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Ruth Iyaji; Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Sam Ranti Abenemi and the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Funmi Abiodun.

THISDAY further gathered that the removal of some of the commissioners was based on the allegation of disloyalty leveled against them as they were said to be hobnobbing with the opposition just as they were said to have packed their belongings from the commissioners quarters few days to the judgment of the Appeal Court in anticipation of the victory of former Governor Abubakar Audu who was challenging the election of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris.

The suspension of the 20 accountants brings to 39 the number of accountants suspended by the Governor as he had last Monday announced the suspension of 19 accountants in various ministries and boards as part of the fall-out of the on-going exercise to unravel those behind the inflation of wage bill in the state.
