Kampala — ORGANISATIONS should adhere to the law when making decisions about computer data and storage management in order to avoid piracy.
The former information and communications technology (ICT) minister, Dr. Ham Mulira, told IT professionals and business managers at the Kampala Serena Hotel during a workshop recently.
The workshop was organised by Virtual Works and Computer Point and aimed at using computer applications that cut costs in managing massive growth of data. Mulira urged firms and government agencies to embrace NetApp solutions to manage data, store it and use a disaster recovery plan for business continuity.
He commended NetApp for pledging to provide Uganda with effective tools of managing data. James Munene, the chief executive officer of Virtual Works Nairobi, said it is critical for business firms and institutions to use NetApp applications to cut power costs, cooling and space as far as data storage is concerned.
Munene pointed out that with NetApp system, organisations would be able to increase efficiency to meet the demands of customers.
He said there is need to have infrastructure that is capable of covering a wider area network and storing e-mails.
