Nigeria: Corps Member Renovates School Building

Awka — Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi has the praised the initiative of a youth corps member, Miss Edem Okon who renovated one of the boarding houses at the Girls' Secondary Schoool, Abbot, Ihiala.

Speaking while on a visit, the governor praised her for embarking on such a project as part of her community development projects.

The governor assured that the state government would rebuild two hostel blocks at Abbot Girls Secondary School Ihiala before the end of September this year.

He said a functional water bore-hole would equally be provided the school within three months as it was unacceptable that a school with such population should be without water. He regretted that neglect of schools in the state over the years had resulted in the collapse of basic infrastructure which his administration was gradually reversing.

The Commission for Education, Dr. Key Onyechi said Governor Obi had remained a man of his words and always responsive to the needs of children and people of the state. Dr. Onyechi noted Governor Obi's commitment to quality education and resolve to achieve zero tolerance for examination malpractice.

Chairman of the school PTA, Sir Emma Ogboji said Governor Obi had restored hope in the aspiration of the school and prayed God to preserve him to complete a second tenure to complete his vision. The principal of the school, Mrs Ann Obioha observed that Governor Obi is the first governor that has taken time to visit schools and make funds available for vital projects in various schools.
