Abuja — Services rendered to patients and residents of Karshi by the Federal Capital Territory's owned general hospital in the area were yesterday described as shameful by SERVICOM.
The evaluation by SERVICOM has put the hospital in the same category as Power Holding Company of Nigeria and the Nigeria police, which were rated shameful in early evaluations by the SERVICOM Office in 2006.
In the report of the evaluation carried out by SERVICOM in May, the office said the hospital has failed in its duty to deliver quality health services to its customers as its services had failed totally.
At the official presentation of the report to the management of the hospital yesterday, Mrs. Christiana Famro, the Chief SERVICOM Officer who led a delegation of SERVICOM Staff and those of the FCT Heath and Human Services Secretariat and the Hospital Management Board arrived the hospital at about 10:30 in the morning, found that most of the staff had not come to work.
Patients were seen sitting anxiously waiting for the staff to come to work and a Community leader, who liaises between the hospital and members of the community, Mr Salihu, told the SERVICOM team that the villagers were not happy with the staff of the hospital, whom he accused of negligence and dereliction of duty.
He also criticized the hospital's board that are supposed to monitor the hospital, alleging that only one of the doctors is dedicated and even uses his personal generator during surgery in the hospital.
Famro said SERVICOM will help in ensuring that health services is improved and will partner with the management of the hospital in order to render efficient service.
She expressed her satisfaction with the performance of the Nodal Officer at the hospital, Dr. Wargon Aqson and described him as a dedicated staff that is attentive to patients' needs.
The hospital's Chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Adama Ajonye, who received the results of the evaluation, assured the SERVICOM officer that the hospital's management will work out a strategic plan to improve services in the place, adding that the hospital has problems, which include lack of electricity and water supply.
