Kampala — UGANDANS Johnson Bagoole and Hamisi Kitagenda were the architects, as Sam Timbe's Rwandan side Atraco downed KCC in the last 30 minutes of yesterday's CECAFA quarterfinal action in Khartoum.
Atraco, beaten 6-1 by El Merreikh 3-2 by Mathare, only made it to the last eight as one of the two best losers, thanks to their 5-0 win over Djibouti's Kartileh.
But the side, which had five Ugandans on the start line-up, had no respect for George Nsimbe's side that led Group B into the knockout stages with three wins. KCC held on for the first 60 minutes but failed to stop the experienced Kitagenda, who opened the floodgates on the hour.
Andre Lomami made it 2-0 in the 74th minute as KCC tried to open up in search for a goal. Bagoole and captain Jean Shyaka scored in a space of four minutes from time to seal KCC's fate, who were looking for a second regional trophy after over three decades.
Timbe stayed on course for a third regional club championship trophy as a coach, after winning one with SC Villa and Police earlier. Atraco will take on the winner of yesterday's later match between Tusker and Mathare United, in the second semi final tomorrow.
In today's action, the top two favourites TP Mazembe and El Merreikh will meet as the semi-finals starts in Khartoum.
