L' Aquila — Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, started at 06:00 pm (05:00 in Angola), a state visit to Italy, where he is attending the G8 Summit that opened Wednesday in L' Aquila, near Rome.
José Eduardo dos Santos is expected to address the meeting of world leaders.
Among several other topics, the G8 Summit is to discuss the world economic crisis, the struggle against poverty, global warming and matters concerning the African continent.
Together with president José Eduardo dos Santos, the continent is being attended by such other figures like the president of the African Union, Mouammar Kadhafi and the heads of State of South Africa, Egypt, Senegal, Ghana and Senegal.
The G8 groups the world's rich most powerful countries like the US, Japan, Germany, Canada, France, Italy, UK and Russia.
Formerly called G7, the group changed designation with the admission of Russia in 1997.
