Africa: G-8 Summit Kicks Off With Working Lunch

L Aquilaitália — A working lunch among the main world leaders in which the theme was the world economic situation marked this afternoon in A Laquila city, Italy, the beginning of the summit of the most industrialised countries, dubbed G-8, Angop has learnt.

Angola, one of the African countries recording a faster economic growth, after a 30-year war, is attending the meeting for the first time after an invitation from Italy.

President José Eduardo dos Santos is due to address a speech on Friday, before the main world leaders, among them the presidents of US, Barak Obama, and Russia, Dimitri Medvedev, and the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel.

Other invited leaders are representatives from South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana, Algeria and Senegal.
