Gulu — Police in Gulu are holding the owner of Northland High School for allegedly embezzling examination fees of their Senior Four candidates.

Mr Jimmy Obol and Mr Geoffrey Otika, the deputy headmaster in charge of examinations, were on Monday detained at Bardege Division Police post for about six hours before their transfer to Gulu Central Police Station.

The arrests followed a peaceful demonstration of 18 affected candidates who marched to Bardege Division chairman's office on Monday. They accused the school administration of failing to register them for Uneb exams after paying Shs136,000 each.

The official deadline for Uneb registration closed on Tuesday.

Some of the students who talked to Daily Monitor said they sought the intervention of higher authorities after the school administrators told them that they would not sit exams this year.

The Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr Johnson Kilama, said the school chiefs could be charged with obtaining money by false pretence.
