The chiefs on Tuesday pledged their availability to work with Philemon Yang to successfully accomplished his mission.
Traditional chiefs from the South West Region, Tuesday, July 07 evening congratulated Philemon Yang on his appointment to the post of Prime Minister, Head of Government and expressed their readiness to work together with him to move Cameroon forward.
The President of the South West Chiefs' Conference, His Majesty Isoh Itoh speaking on behalf of the members of the central executive of the conference at Mr Yang's residence in Yaounde, said, " We have come to assure you that we are pleased with the appointment. We have come so that we can work as a team and we are ready to collaborate with you to ensure that our country moves forward in peace and unity". He stated that the Chiefs' conference was a socio-economic development tool in the South West and adding that they work in partnership with government.
Chief General James Tataw from the council of wise men, corroborating His Majesty Isoh Itoh's statement told the Prime Minister, "God is in command and we pray that the Holy Spirit be around you to protect you". The chiefs in a written statement told Yang, "your appointment is a just recognition of a man who has served the nation for so long and so well". They equally charged the Prime Minister to transmit their message of appreciation to the Head of State for appointing Yang, as well as Peter Agbor Tabi as Assistant Secretary General at the Presidency and maintaining some South West indigenes in government. Besides the speeches, Philemon Yang will forever remember the South West Chiefs for the symbolic gift of a calabash, they described as a traditional container of palm wine used for sharing and through which they commit themselves to working and succeeding as a team.
The Prime Minister in response, described the office bestowed on him as a journey in the course of which there will surely be stumbling blocks and bridges to cross, " but together we will succeed", he said. Philemon Yang appreciated the fact that as kings, the South West Chiefs stand for order, goodness and peace, specifying that there were the principles every government goes for. Mr Yang promised to attend to and listen to everybody without discrimination and told the chiefs, "Even if you do not see me very often, pray for me as prayers can turn the world round".
