Zambia: UNZA Go - Slow Stays

9 July 2009

THE go-slow by University of Zambia (UNZA) workers yesterday continued, leaving only a skeleton staff involved in the registration of students.

The decision to allow staff to register students was meant to ensure that the students paid fees even as the go-slow continued.

A check at UNZA Great East Road campus showed some workers loitering with some students registering for their next semester.

University of Zambia Professional Association (Unzaprosa) chairperson, James Sitwala said that the unions were holding a meeting with the University Council before coming up with a concrete position.

The situation at the university was worsened by the fact that the staff had not been paid their June salaries.
