Kampala — RESIDENTS of Bwambara sub-county in Rukungiri district have appealed to the Government for rescue relief food.
The LC3 chief, Enock Tugumehabwe, said most families have only three meals a week because of lack of food.
"We are potatos and cassava growers, but due to prolonged drought, all the crops have dried up, leaving us with no food," he narrated.
Speaking during a meeting with the resident district commissioner, Dan Kaguta, on Saturday, Tugumehabwe explained that residents had resorted to looking for casual work in exchange for food in distant areas that are not hard-hit,
Nicholas Byarugaba of Nyakarambi in Kakoni- Nyabubare village said they get food from Ruhinda, Nyakagyeme and sometimes from Bushenyi district. Prices of food, he noted, had also increased. Byarugaba said the famine was partly caused by wild animals from the Imaramagambo National Park, which destroy their crops.
Kaguta urged the people to diversify their activities instead of relying on only one crop.
