Zimbabwe: Soccer Supporters Welcome Zifa's Move On 2010 Tickets

9 July 2009

Harare — THE Zimbabwe National Soccer Supporters' Association have welcomed the move by Zifa to centralise the national purchasing pool for tickets for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.

Zifa on Tuesday invited companies and individuals to submit their 2010 World Cup ticket requirements to the association.

Henrietta Rushwaya, the Zifa chief executive, said that her association was currently carrying out a survey on the ticket category requirements for individuals and corporate organisations for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa in order to purchase the tickets before the end of the year.

She also invited all interested corporates and individuals to submit their ticket requirements to the Zifa marketing department by no later than July 31 2009.

The ZNSSA, through their vice-president Eddie "Mboma" Nyatanga, yesterday described Zifa's idea of centralising national purchasing pool for tickets for the 2010 World Cup as "a very noble idea".

"We, the ZNSSA, welcome this move because we strongly feel that it is the duty of Zifa, and not us, to purchase tickets for the 2010 World Cup for local individuals and corporate organisations.

"We are fully behind this move and we would like to pledge our full support to Henrietta Rushwaya in her drive to get local people to go and watch the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa. "This will only see us just getting out there and organising transport for the supporters that would like to go and watch these finals as we feel that this is the only part that we have to play as ZNSSA," Nyatanga said.

Nyatanga also said they wanted to avoid a repeat of the situation in which scores of local fans were denied the opportunity of watching last month's Confederations Cup final after complications arose on the availability of the tickets for the big match.

"From now on we would like Zifa to handle the issue of the tickets and we would like people like (Harare businessman) Phillip Chiyangwa to come on board and help the local fans in travelling to South Africa to watch next year's World Cup finals," Nyatanga said.
