Nigeria: PDP - Emodi Appeals Court Ruling

Vincent Ujumadu

9 July 2009

Awka — THE Uchenna Emodi-led executive of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has appealled Wednesday's vacation of an interlocutory injunction granted it by an Anambra State High Court sitting in Onitsha, in October last year, on which strength the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) based it decision to return his group as the state executive of the party.

It has also asked the court to stay the execution of ruling.

Justice Veronica Umeh, had on Wednesday, vacated the injunction, although she did not say that Chief Ifeatu Okoye, who is the leader of another faction of PDP in the state should be reinstated as the state chairman of the party.

Counsel to the PDP, Mr. J.O. Nnadi told newsmen in Onitsha, yesterday that with the filing of the appeal, the Uchenna Emodi executive would continue to function until the court says otherwise.

He also described the ruling of Justice Umeh, whose court vacated the injunction as a nullity, because PDP had earlier made three applications to the Chief Judge of the state, requesting the transfer of the case out of Justice Umeh's court.
