Uganda:KAVC Desperate to Rekindle Lost Pride

Kampala — HOSTS Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club KAVC will look to the 13th edition of their annual founder's memorial to end their poor performance in the showpiece.

KAVC celebrates its 39th birthday and will have to out-muscle teams from Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi for the crown.

Uganda has entered 12 teams while Rwanda will field six, Kenya, two and one side from Burundi.

"True, the men unlike the ladies have not done well over the past editions, but we shall strive for the very best this time," said Bob Ewange, the KAVC president. "They have been training hard and are all ready for the fight," he added

The tournament is sponsored by the National Social Security Fund NSSF to the tune of shs 20m.

While unveiling the package at the NSSF head office in Kampala, Olive Lumonya, the company's deputy chief marketing and communications officer told reporters that: "We believe these games will develop the stars of today and tomorrow. For us, social responsibility is our pleasure."

The company has also provided a first aid package which includes stretchers and first aid kits that total to sh4.5m to help players in case of an emergency.

The tournament which starts tomorrow will have matches played at Namboole and the Lugogo indoor stadium before the closing ceremony on Sunday.
