Nigeria: Sylva Kicks Against Recall of House Members

Abuja — Some persons are on a mission to cause trouble through a deceptive recall of some members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly based on trumped-up charges when their target is the governor himself, Bayelsa Governor Chief Timipre Sylva said yesterday.

He warned politicians in the state to desist from actions that can lead to trouble and upset the prevailing peace in the state.

Speaking through his Chief press secretary, Doifie Ola, the governor said the state government would not fold its arms and watch disgruntled elements and their backers cause trouble in the state in order to achieve their selfish political agenda.

"Governor Sylva believes this orchestrated attempt is to cause disharmony between the executive and legislature in the state and strain the cordial working relationship between the two arms of government, which has remained peaceful since the inception of the Sylva administration.

The governor believes the current House of Assembly members in the state have done very well and that there is no basis for the recall of any assembly member," the governor's spokesman said.

Meanwhile, former President of Botswana and United Nations Special Envoy on Climate Change, Mr Festus Mogae has commended Chief Timipre Sylva for implementing developmental projects in the state.

Mogae who was the guest speaker at the Annual Good Governance Lecture Series organised to mark Sylva's 45th birthday said that he was impressed with everything he has seen.
