Kaduna — The Kaduna State government is to deal with any group of persons that stage any riot against epileptic power supply or services of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), the state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Saidu Adamu has said.
A few months ago, some youths protested over the epileptic power supply in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of the state. The protest created tension among the people of the area as one person was shot dead by police men while dispersing the rioters.
Speaking during the quarterly media briefing of the state, he said the government had resolved to employ the laws of the land to deal with any group of persons caught protesting.
"We are not going to tolerate any riot again. We have a law on rioters or public disturbance and we are going to employ it on any group of persons found protesting. Nigeria is not a kangaroo nation. We have so many means of settling issues," he said.
He said the state commissioner of police; Alhaji Tambari Yabo had been directed to make a public pronouncement on government's stance on riot.
Adamu reiterated the commitment of the government to improve power supply in the state , saying government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on power.
"Kaduna is the only state that gets 25 to 30 mega watts of electricity daily in the north and I don't see reason why some group of persons should be rioting unnecessarily. Many states in the north get between 5 to 10 mega watts daily only Katsina gets 20. Our people should be appreciative," he said.
