Nigeria: Yuguda Redeploys Directors as Teachers

Abuja — Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State has approved the immediate redeployment of 22 directors and deputy directors in the Ministry of Education to secondary schools as teachers. This is contained in a statement issued yesterday by the Director of Administration and Finance of the ministry, Alhaji Adamu Imam.

"His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State has today, the 6th of July 2009, directed that all professionals occupying various positions in the ministries of education, health, higher education and science and technology as well as parastatal agencies related to education and health to be posted out from their respective ministries and parastatals to manage our educational and health institutions across the state for the period of one year.

His Excellency has appealed to the directors and deputy directors so affected to accept their postings as a sacrifice they must make for the state to move forward. This development was a result of His Excellency's dissatisfaction with the level of services and management offered in our schools and hospitals across the state and therefore has decided that these professionals be posted out to help return our schools and hospitals to their past glory," Imam said.

It would be recalled that Yuguda had last year offered to teach economics at Government Girls' College, Bauchi, as part of his contribution toward raising the standard of education.

Yuguda also urged other top government officials serving in his administration to do same as part of measures to tackle the shortage of qualified teachers in the state.
