Hamisu Muhammad

10 July 2009

Abuja — Legislative processes and open resistance by some stakeholders in the petroleum industry are the major causes of delay in the implementation of the oil and Gas reform efforts by the Government.

NNPC GMD Mohammed S. Barkindo said this in Abuja at a meeting with oil and gas workers, saying even though the legislation processes are steadily progressing it needs to be speed up in order to get the bill passed into law.

He said the benefits of the reforms are enormous to the Nigerian public but the some stakeholders are attacking the reform for their own gains.

According to him, speed passage of the Bill is very crucial for the industry.

Other challenges, Barkindo said include, managing an aggressive transition through difficult times such as huge human capacity requirement amidst global shortage of competent personnel as well as alignment of stakeholders and critical Agencies.
