Kano — Kano based industries have been charged on the need to collaborate and generate alternative power. Members of the House of Representatives committee on industries gave the charge while inspecting the state of industries in Kano as part of their oversight tour to Industrial Training Fund (ITF) zonal offices in the country.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, its chairman Solomon Agidani Lar said they are on the tour to assess the state of the industries as well as to create a synergy between the federal government and the industries on how the industries could be revived through law making.

Mr. Agadani noted that the committee is aware that the major problem of industries in the country was inadequate power supply, while adding that it is time industries come together to generate an alternative power supply.

He said the best alternative is for industries to get alternative to power supply so as to be in business. Among the industries visited by the committee members during tour in included Adhama textiles and garments and BUA flour mills.

On his part, the Managing Director, BUA flour mills Alhaji Mannir Isiaka Rabiu told members of the committee that the company is fairing terribly as a result of lack of power supply while noting that, "it is unfortunate that during the last six months, the company spent the sum of N90m on diesel".

Isiaka added that, it is unfortunate that Nigerian relies on import for the supply of goods that ordinarily should be produced in Nigeria.

On his part, a member of the governing council of ITF, Alhaji Sa'idu Dattijo Adahama thanked the committee for the visit while he called on them to come to the aid of Nigerian industries by making policies in favour of industrial development adding, Nigerian economy can only develop when industries are fully revived.

He said: "without training, Nigerian industries can never develop, without industries, Nigerian economy can never be revived and also the problem of unemployment will never be solved'.
