10 July 2009

Gombe — The Federal Medical Center (FMC)Gombe has been forced to discharge all patients on admission following the industrial action embarked upon by the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Mid-wife and National Association of Medical and Health Workers demanding payment of their monetization arrears.

The Chief Medical Director of FMC, Dr. Aliyu Usman El-Nafaty said the hospital discharged over 90 percent of the in-patients, leaving behind few patients with serious cases that needed monitoring.

He added that the hospital was shut down because doctors available would not be able to handle the operation of the hospital. Our correspondent saw patients being evacuated by relatives to state owned hospitals and private clinics.

An in-patient's relative, Thomas Benjamin who spoke to Daily Trust appealed to the Federal Government to find a solution to the problem.
