Kigali — PREPARATIONS for next week's regional sitting volleyball tourney have been stalled after reports that the playing equipment to be used during the week-long event has been impounded by Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA).

According to the National Paralympics Committee (NPC), the equipment which includes balls, nets, and wheel chair bicycles is a donation from the renowned Dutch Professor of disabilities Mike Russchen, who recently conducted a clinic for visually impaired athletes.

NPC-Rwanda has been asked by RRA to cough up Rwf1million to clear the equipment but NPC President Dominique Bizimana insists that the body does not have that kind of money.

"They have told us that the laws have been modified in that even donations are nowadays taxed but we don't have that kind of money and yet we need to use the equipment for the upcoming regional sitting volleyball tournament," Bizimana told Times Sport by phone yesterday.

Five countries including Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, DR.Congo and hosts Rwanda are expected to take part in the event which is scheduled to start July 21.
