Gulu — There were exhilarating performances from Gulu and Kapchorwa among the 48 districts assembled here on the opening day of the national post primary schools' athletics championship yesterday.
Hosts Gulu gave the cheering crowd a mesmerizing performance with most of their athletes sweeping top positions in both track and field events. Gulu's star athlete, Joyce Ajok shone in the 800m, 400m and 200m heats, giving the hosts hope of a repeat of last year's performance in which they emerged overall winners.
Earlier in the day, Kapchorwa maintained their excellent record in long distance races by winning both the boys and girls' events. While officiating at the opening ceremony, Gulu resident district commissioner Rtd Col Walter Ochora said; "Northern Uganda went through 23 years of madness, and your coming here is a clear manifestation that the madness is no more."
