Uganda: Basena Plotting for New Season

Kampala — Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) FC Coach Moses Basena will add at least three players to the Super League champions' squad as they prepare for their title defence.

And it is the defence Basena will look at keenly as the club are on the brink of losing their kingpin defender Joseph Owino to Tanzanian giants Simba FC. "We are looking at players who are intelligent, ambitious and competitive, not necessarily stars," coach Basena said after receiving the utl-Uspa monthly award for June at Rwenzori Courts yesterday.

URA put on a 13-game unbeaten run without conceding a goal last season with Owino leading the back line. Basena is now targeting Bunamwaya FC defender Derrick Walulya to replace Owino. "I've worked with him (Walulya) before at Simba. He's one player with quality, ambition and is hardworking," Basena noted.

He added: "We shall add two more as we also prepare for continental club football next season." URA polled 705 votes to win the prestigious award given to most outstanding individuals or teams every month. Kakungulu Cup winners SC Villa finished second with 625 votes.
