Owerri — The American citizen, who was recently kidnapped at Izombe, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, has been rescued by the state police command.

A reliable police source revealed that the American national was held hostage somewhere in Mbaise, while his police orderly and driver were killed in the operation.

It was further gathered that as soon as the kidnappers were informed that the huge ransom they demanded had been deposited at an agreed point, close to the Central Bank of Nigeria premises, Owerri, they moved to collect their loot.

Vanguard also gathered that the hoodlums took the kidnapped American to the agreed venue, adding that a member of the gang then stepped out of the car to pick the money.

"A crack team of policemen that had laid ambush in the area, pounced on him as he alighted from the car to carry the bag of money. The American, who was in the car at the time, was rescued", the source added.

The arrested member of the kidnap gang, it was learnt, allegedly told the police that a staff of Addax Petroleum gave them information on the American and his movement.
