Zimbabwe: ZimRights to Hold Free Music Concert

Harare — ZIMRIGHTS will tonight hold a free music concert in the Harare Gardens under the theme: "Jive It A Free Constitution", with the aim of encouraging every Zimbabwean citizen to participate in the national constitution-making process.

Various musicians and dance groups, including Leonard Zhakata, Dino Mudondo, Sniper, Extra Large, Raymond Majongwe, Mambokadzi and Explosion, among others, will alternate on stage at the gig free of charge for a worthy cause.

The concert kicks off at 6pm and runs until late. Okay Machisa, the ZimRights director, said the concert was aimed at informing people that it was their constitutional right to be part of the constitution-making process.

"Through this concert, we want to inform the people of Zimbabwe what was agreed on by the country's three main political parties to come up with a new national constitution.

"Our role as ZimRights is to urge Zimbabwean citizens to be involved in the constitution-making process since it's their constitutional right to be involved in the crafting of a people-driven and people centred document," he said. Machisa hastened to add that the concert and the constitution-making process didn't belong to a single political party.

"Although the constitution touches on issues to do with national politics, the concert as well as the national constitution do not belong to one political party.

"So we urge people to express what lies at the bottom of their hearts to the Parliamentary Select Committee," he said.
