10 July 2009

A TAXI was yesterday stolen in the Ndola city centre by people who pretended to be customers.

Copperbelt police chief, Antoneill Mutentwa confirmed in an interview that a taxi driver was robbed of his taxi around 11:00 hours yesterday by unknown people. Mr Mutentwa said the man driving a Toyota Sprinter, ACL 1911 was booked by unknown persons who pretended to be customers, but later within the city centre they snatched the vehicle from him.

"A taxi registration number ACL 1911, was stolen this morning around 11:00 hours by people that pretended to be customers," he said. And a 17-year-old girl was on Tuesday raped at the Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF) grounds.

The victim was raped around 18:00 hours by a 24-year-old man she identified. The suspect of Mushili township has since been detained by police and will appear in court soon.

Mr Mutentwa said that the ZITF did not record any other major crimes apart from the rape case and a number of mobile phones stolen.
