Mr. Omar A. Khan, the governor of Upper River Region (URR), on Monday, 6th July, appeared before Justice Anin Avril Yeboah of the Land and Civil Division Court at the Banjul High Court.
Governor Khan was subpoenaed as a witness to produce documents in a land related civil suit between Alkalo Alhagie Kulung Bayo and Demba Suso, on behalf of the villagers of Passamasi Mandinka, as the plaintiffs, and Alkalo Bailo Sowe and Cherno Lasana Bah, as first and second defendants, representating Passamasi Fula Kunda. The two settlements are in the Wuli District, Upper River Region (URR).
The Court required him to produce the letter dated 18th June, 1997, from Tumani Bayo to the then Commissioner (formerly Upper River Division or URD) captioned "Request for temporary Arrangement of land dispute" and the reply dated 24th June, 1997, by the then commissioner, Ebrima K. Sarr, to Tumani Bayo regarding the above mentioned disputed land in Passamasi village between the parties in the case. Mr. Khan was summoned at the instance of the defendants (Passamasi Fula Kunda).
