Angola: Head of State to Speak On Economic Crisis Negative Effects

10 July 2009

Luanda — The Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, is to deliver a speech this Friday at the G8 Summit taking place in L'Aquila, Italy, in which he will lay out the reasons why the world economic crisis has tragic effects on African economies, ANGOP has learnt.

The Angolan statesman will also present some suggestions to the G8 countries, which will aim to contribute to the resolution of this crisis.

According to ANGOP's source, José Eduardo dos Santos will request greater support from financial institutions of the G8 states aimed for the international reserves of African countries and also for these data to have major weight on the decisions of the IMF, according to the current reality.

The statesman will also speak about the environment, particularly on the need to preserve the ecosystem of Congo Basin, as well as will make an appeal for peace and security to be safeguarded in Guinea Gulf, among other issues.

President Eduardo dos Santos is also expected to touch on the issue of food security, probably suggesting the need for the constitution of a food reserve that serves to rescue the most needy countries.

The Angolan statesman might also make an appeal for the G8 to exert influence with the European Union and the United Nations for continual financing of peace keeping programmes and the fight against the traffic of drugs.
