The Gambia's international reggae star, Dr Olugander, was recently awarded an 'Honorary Award' by the Atlanta Gambians Emergency Relief Association (AGERA), at a farewell award ceremony held at the Klimanjaro, Atlanta Georgia, United States of America.
Each year, AGERA, a non -profit organisation based in Atlanta, Gerogia, organises a 'Gambian Reunion Festival' on July 4th, which coincides with celebrations marking the United States independence. This year, they have invited Dr Olugander, to go and receive an honorary Award, recognising his work over the past years, especially 2009 as Gambia's premier reggae giant.
Responding to the award, Dr Olugander went on: " I am speechless to be honest. It has finally arrived, and I have the award right here, which I will bring home very soon. I wanna dedicate it to my mama, my daughter and all my family, fans, friends and not forgetting my other family- the Ganders Production Music Label," elated Dr Olugander said.
This, he said when he returns home he will celebrate the award in a grand sytle with all his fans. On behalf of Ganders Productions Music Label, the MD Valentine Banjakey said: " Again, we are absolutely touched. Its not every day you hear Gambian artists receiving international award. We must be doing sometime right, but we will never be complacement, as we are looking forward to Doctor's return impatiently, to rejoice," he said.
Reports gathered by What's On, reveal that the award ceremony was well attended by Gambians, and other nationalities in the US. It could be recalled that this US trip is the second international trip Gander is undertaking in less then a year, after his mega European tour about six-months ago.
