Rwanda: Donors Offer Grant of 35 Million Euros for Judicial Development

9 July 2009

The European Union (EU), Belgium, Germany, Netherlands and the United States have offered a grant of 35 million Euros to Rwanda to reinforce its judicial sector and related fields, reported Radio Rwanda Thursday.

The agreement to the effect was signed between the Rwandan Minister for Finance, James Musoni and donor representatives on Wednesday in Kigali.

The funds will be distributed between the ministry of Justice, courts, Prosecutor General's office, police, the national reconciliation and human rights commissions as well as the office of "the ombudsman", according to the state radio.

The finance ministry, however, will be responsible for disbursing the funds.

The Minister for Justice, Tharcisse Karugarama, lauded the basket financing by the donors, added the radio station.
