The Honorable Member of Parliament (MP) for Asin-North, Kennedy Agyapong, has touched the hearts of the chiefs and people of Duayaw Nkwanta in the Tano-North District of the Brong-Ahafo Region, for fulfilling a promise made to provide the Boakye Tromo Senior High School with a boys' dormitory.
Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, during the NPP parliamentary primaries nationwide, was delegated to lead a team to resolve disputes that erupted at some constituencies before the 2008 elections.
In the quest to resolve the row that generated between supporters of the current MP for Tano North, Hon. Ernest Akubuor Debrah, and that of Mrs. Freda Prempeh, a competitor of the MP, the team visited the Palace of the Paramount Chief of Duayaw Nkwanta, Nana Boakye Tromo.
Nana Boakye Tromo, in his interaction with the conflict resolution team, appealed that the Boakye Tromo Senior High School had no dormitory for the male students and a bungalow for the headmaster of the school, and that they should support the school to acquire them.
According to Nana Boakye Tromo the lack of proper accommodation for the boys was affecting the school in the maintenance of discipline, which also reflected negatively on academic progress.
After the chief's appeal, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong volunteered to provide the school with a 5-unit dormitory block with a master's bungalow attached, and he instantly donated GH¢10, 000 for the architectural drawings and preparation of the land.
Following the defeat of the NPP in the 2008 general elections, the chief and people, as well as the school's authorities, thought their dream had been shattered.
Fortunately, the MP kept to his promise to continue the over GH¢78, 000 project to the surprise of the chiefs and people of the area, which currently has reached window level.
The Chief Nana Boakye Tromo expressed his profound gratitude to the Assin-North MP for extending his philanthropic gesture to the people of Duayaw Nkwanta, and hoped that the work would be completed to ease the problem of accommodation in the school.
Hon. Kennedy Agyapong confirmed to the B/A File about the gesture, and gave the assurance that it would be completed as expected, and hinted that he was sourcing funds to be given to the contractors for the completion of the project for the students to utilize during the next academic term.
"I am not doing this for any political gains, but for the development of the country as a concerned citizen," he stated.
The capacity of the rooms in the 5-unit dormitory block is not less than 20 students per room, whilst the master's bungalow has 2-bedrooms, a hall, kitchen, toilet and bath and a store.
