STRIKING workers under the Radio, Television and Theatre Workers Union (RATTAWU) and their counterparts in the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) yesterday picketed the headquarters of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) in protest of non payment of their monetization benefits by the Federal Government.
The protesting workers who stormed NTA at about 8 o'clock in the morning prevented the outside broadcast (OB) van to be taken to the National Assembly to beam live sitting of plenary session in the Senate.
The national presidents of both RATTAWU and NUJ, Comrade Yemisi Bamgbose and Mohammed Garba respectively led their members in the joint demonstration.
"We are here to ensure compliance to the industrial action which started on Tuesday, we have been promised before now that the money which is about 90bn will be paid to us, but till now nothing was done about the money rather federal government is saying it released 4obn; what happened to the remaining 50bn," they said.
They added that "even the said 40bn which federal government said it has released is not ready, so what are they talking about, we are tired of promises, we want our money."
Pleas by Chairman, Senate Committee on Information and Media, Senator Ayogu Eze for the striking workers to allow the OB van be taken to the National Assembly to cover Senate plenary session were rejected by the protesters.
