Angola: São Tomé Highlights President Dos Santos' Participation in G-8

Luanda — São-Tomé's ambassador to Angola, Armindo de Brito Fernandes, praised the participation of the Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos, in the G8 Summit, taking place in L'Aquilla, Italy.

According to the diplomat, the invitation for the Head of State to attend the event shows the role Angola has been playing in the African continent and acknowledges, in a way, the efforts made by the country in the past, during the civil war that almost destroyed it completely, as well as oncoing national reconstruction effort.

Armindo Fernandes considers it a deserved distinction awarded to the Angolan statesman, for being the "architect of peace, but also for leading wisely the Angolan reconstruction and development process.

The diplomat expressed satisfaction and pride about the presence of president José Eduardo dos Santos at the G8 meeting.

The three-day summit is dicussing, among other issues, the world financial crisis, nuclear weapons, climate change, tourism and food security.

The G8 comprises Russia, Britain, United States, Germany, France, Japan, Italy and China.
