Namibia: Hitman Gets a Japanese in Historic Bout

10 July 2009

Windhoek — Paulus "Hitman" Moses will be squaring up against Japanese boxer Takahiro Shimada in his first ever World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight title defence bout slotted for later this month.

This match will be a historic moment for Namibian boxing as it is the first time ever a world title match to be held in Namibia.

The Hitman said that he is "very happy" to hear that the fight is on, and also that it means a lot to him to be defending his title on home soil.

"I have been training hard for the defence of my crown ever since the day I won it," he said. "I am preparing for 12 rounds, but if I knock him out then it will be my bonus."

Moses still holds a perfect record of 24 fight and 24 wins. His number 13 ranked Japanese opponent's record on the other hand is not quite so impressive as he has only won 16 fight, lost four and drew one in all of his fights.

Comparing the two records clearly shows that the Hitman has the upper hand, but boxing has never been fought on paper.

There will be other bouts that night involving local boxers facing South Africans in different weight divisions.
