Kumasi — AN NDC Youth activist in Kumasi, Ofori Agyemang Boadi, popularly known as "Zuba", has stated that the recent fuel shortage which has hit the country is a deliberate ploy by some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to sabotage the government.
Describing the shortage as an artificial one, the vociferous NDC activist said he was of the strongest conviction that some fuel dealers have orchestrated moves to make the government of the day unpopular by stockpiling the product.
Ofori Agyemang disclosed to The Chronicle in an interview that his personal investigations indicate that the so-called fuel shortage particularly in the Kumasi Metropolis was a sham, alleging that some dealers of the product have intentionally hoarded the product and were only selling them at night.
He noted that some oil dealers in Kumasi, who entered the market during the reign of the NPP under President Kufuor and are known to be staunch sympathizers of the opposition party, were responsible for the shortage. "I don't know about other regions but I can confidently state that what is happening in Kumasi, concerning the fuel shortage, is not the making of the government but rather a sabotage by opponents of the NDC to make the government less popular in the eyes of Ghanaians," he confidently stated.
According to him, ever since it became apparent that fuel had become scarce in the country, he has personally monitored operations of some filling stations in the Kumasi metropolis and his findings reveal that some stations, owned by individuals, some of whom personally funded the campaigns of the NPP, have been hoarding the products and selling them at exorbitant prices during the night.
Even though the NDC activist refused to mention names of any fuel dealers he claimed were responsible for the artificial shortage of fuel in the Metropolis, he challenged the security apparatus to do their own investigation and find out if his claims were false.
"I am challenging the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) and other security agencies to take the matter up and expose these greedy and selfish individuals whose objective is to destroy the government in order to satisfy the political ambitions of the opposition party.
