Ilorin — Official quarters of the Senior Staff of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State were, weekend, stormed by gunmen who carted away property worth thousands of naira.
Informed sources told Vanguard that although no life was lost during the attack, no fewer than eight official quarters of the senior staff of the institution were affected in a raid that lasted almost three and half hours.
Some of the items carted away included laptops computers, mobile phones, money and other valuables.
Sources close to the institution told newsmen in Ilorin, yesterday that the robbers were said to have gained entrance through a nearby bush because the quarters were not fully fenced.
All the victims lost their valuable items to the robbers who, according to one of the victims, ordered the occupants to open their doors voluntarily or if they force their way in, they would be killed before their items would be taken away.
The security guards on duty could not save the situation as they were over powered by the sophisticated weapons of the robbers.
Contacted, Director of Information and Protocol of the university, Mr. Marfouz Adedimeji, who confirmed the incident described it as unfortunate, adding that the authorities of the institution have swung into action towards arresting the suspects.
In order to forestall such occurrence in the future, Adedimeji said the authorities had commenced day and night patrol of security operatives around the senior staff quarters and other important places in the institution.
