Gambia: 16 Youths Charged With Terrorism

Sixteen youths charged with prohibition of terrorism were arraigned before Magistrate Basiru Mahoney of the Brikama Magistrate court on the 8th July, 2009. All the 16 accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The state prosecutor, Bakum, told the court that he is aware of the case on the 8th of July and would like to go through the files to familiarize himself with the case.

He applied for the court to give him at least one week.

The 16 youths who are charged with terrorism are; Alasana Thomas, Maulud Badjie, Lansana Sambou, Ousman Jarju, Mansur Jatta, Sedat Jatta, Dawda Jatta, Fabia Nyafunch, Pa Ousman Badjie, Abdoulie Jatta, Samsiden Jammeh, Mumimu Bah, Kebba Seckan, Kemo Conteh, Sam Kambai and Abdoulie Jarjue.

The majority of the accused persons are Senegalese nationals.

The case was however adjourned to Tuesday, 15th July, for continuation. The accused will continue to be remanded at the Mile 2 Central Prison until the next adjourned date.
