Gambia: Babylon Secures Vital Three Points, Sambou Kunda Out

Babylon United of Farato Village on Tuesday opened their nawettan qualifying round fixture in Brikama with a lone goal defeat over Sambou Kunda, thus ending their hope in the nawettan proper.

Babou Sibi brought parity in the game in the 4th minute of the second half when he capitalized on the loose ball following a miscommunication between Sambou Kunda goalie and his defenders.

Having taken the lead, Farato players surged hard for another goal to consolidate their narrow lead.

5oth minute into the encounter, Famara Fofana of Babylon Utd was fed on with one on one chance in the opponent's yard which he hit harder for a goal, but goal keeper Michael Sambou of Sambou Kunda was fantastic in saving the powerful shot.

In retaliation, Lamin Sisoho of Sambou Kunda made a brilliant solo pass and maneuvered into Babylon yard. But before he aims to shoot the ball, Babylon defenders quickly cleared their area.

Alieu Jatta, Alfusainey Jatta and Sedia Sambou of Sambou Kunda all came close to booking their names on the score sheet, but their threats were dispelled by Babylon defenders.

Babylon seized the command of the game from Sambou kunda in the 65th minute when their players put their nerves in order and fought to fortify their goals hence seconder was in the wilderment.

They displayed a wonderful connection and criss-cross well coordination passes in every department in the field.

The pressure from Babylon paid dividend in the 70th minute, when Famara Fofana broke into Sambou Kunda territory and aimed to shoot, but was bundled down in the 18 yard.

Ebrima Bojang stepped in and triggered for goal to open the lead for Babylon, but was denied by goalkeeper Michael Sambou who dived well and made a superb save.

Thereafter both sides push extremely well especially Sambou Kunda to score goals, but this didn't happen.

Speaking after the game, head coach of Sambou Kunda Tyson acknowledged his boys' performance noting that though they lost, his players have given all their best in the game, and was unlucky to score.

We take it in good faith. It may be over for us here in Brikama qualifier, but we are preparing for other tournaments in our area.

For Babylon's head coach, Lamin Danso alias "Rivaldo" described the match as "fair game". He said that his players have really translated their training lesson in this match. We have been training together for couple of months and prior to our game, we had series of test matches amongst them, against Busumbala and Pirang. And that has helped us to have this result. We will prepare for our next game and hopefully we will make it" he said.
