Angola: Immigration Costs Country About USD 2 Million

10 July 2009

Luanda — Angola spends Usd 1.8 million every year with the Immigrants Detention Centre (TDI), Angop learned from an official source.

The information was released Thursday in Luanda by the deputy minister of Interior for Social Affairs and Human Rights, José Bamoquína Zau.

According to the official who was speaking to Angop, the above mentioned amount is used in food alone for TDI, and does not cover expenses with air or road transportation when illegal immigrants are to be repatriated.

He stated that the country is concerned with the situation of illegal immigration as, he added, it negatively affects the country's affairs and hinders the State's development.

The deputy minister led Luanda on Thursday night for Geneva, Switzerland, to attend an annual meeting on July 9-10.
