Nairobi — Milk deliveries to New Kenya Co-operative Creameries in the North Rift region have declined due to the on-going dry spell.
"The industry is faced with acute shortage of the commodity since milk deliveries have drastically reduced," New KCC chairman Matu Wamae said.
He said the country not only supplies the commodity to Kenya but also to Egypt, Ivory Coast, Botswana and the Arab countries.
The chairman said farmers should be trained on how to raise their dairy cattle and proper feeding methods with a view to enhancing milk production.
Mr Wamae advised them to join co-operative societies to be able to borrow loans from financial institutions.
He spoke on Sunday while addressing farmers at Kabyego Trading Centre in Rift Valley after attending the launch of Kakesopche Rural Sacco officiated by Co-operative Development and Marketing Minister Joseph Nyagah.
