Somalia: Heavy Fighting Starts in North Mogadishu

Mogadishu — Heavy fighting between the Islamist forces and government soldiers has started in the north of the Somali capital Mogadishu, witnesses told Shabelle radio on Saturday.

Residents said that the fighting started in around Golobla hotel in Abdal Asis district in the north at early on Saturday morning as both sides are using heavy weapons in the battle.

The two sides of the fighting had military bases there in the north over the recent days as there was clashes.

Locals said that sound of heavy gunfire could be heard in all directions of districts in the north of Mogadishu.

It is unclear the real casualties of the fighting so far as more of the residents started fleeing from their houses due to the heavy shelling and sound of gunfire that the both sides are exchanging.
