Nigeria: GkS Charges Militants On FG's Amnesty Plans

Lagos — Ministers of the God's Kingdom Society (GKS),m the Church of the Living God have ended their two-day annual conference with an appeal to militants in the Niger Delta to embrace the amnesty proposals from the Federal Government so as to end the current quagmire in the region and prevent further loss of lives and property.

A release based on the report of the Conference issued at the Church headquarters in Salem City, Warri, described the amnesty as a "great relief" and enjoined the militants to renounce violence while urging the government to show good faith by living up to her promises in the fear of God so as to win the confidence of the militants and encourage them to accept the amnesty proposals. Asserting that dialogue rather than force of arms and vengefulness should be the preferred option in the resolution of the Niger Delta imbroglio, the ministers quoted the words of Jesus Christ who stated: "Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the children of God" (Matthew 5:9)" and David the prophet who declared "He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God." - 2 Samuel 23:3.

Speaking on the moves by the Rivers and Lagos State Governments to ban all forms of noisy religious worship within their states, the ministers noted the abuse of the freedom of worship by some religious groups stating that the worship of God should not be characterised by noise and long prayers as it ought to be a quiet, sober and solemn affair.
