Kampala — KCC FC coach George Nsimbe fears a massive player exodus unless the club moves quickly to tie them up with new contracts. Nsimbe, who has just returned from the CECAFA Club Championship in Sudan, said that all the players have run out of contract and are targets for different clubs within and outside the country.
KCC officials offered the players one-year contracts at the beginning of 2008/9 season which has elapsed and Nsimbe said that he was apparently failing to convince the players to stay.
Striker Robert Ssentongo and midfielder Patrick Senfuka are the first players to disagree with Nsimbe and are headed for African Rayon FC of Tanzania and local champions URA FC respectively.
"The players have expired contracts. I have talked to them but they don't seem to agree with me. I was particularly concerned about Ssentongo's move to Tanzania," said the coach.
"I sat him down but we failed to agree," Nsimbe said.
On their exit in CECAFA Nsimbe said that, "It was my first year in the championship. We did our best and everybody now thinks KCC is a good club. That is my pride. KCC fell to Atraco 4-0 in the quarterfinals.
But the most surpsrising move is that of Hassan Mubiru who has returned to Express from semi-retirement. Mubiru, a former skipper at the club, had also been reported to be nursing ambitions of going back to rivals SC Villa.
The former international, who started top flight football with Police, crossed from Villa Park to Wankulukuku in 1999. He has been out of competitive football season.
Express is already training for the off-season tour of Tanzania at the invitation of leading side Yanga. They will have an exhibition match between the old and new players on Friday.
