Uganda: KCC Runs Over KAVC in Memorial Final

Kampala — LITTLE things often cost dearly. This is the lesson KAVC women learnt as KCC took advantage of their poor reception and uncoordinated footwork to win the two-day International Memorial Championship at Lugogo yesterday.

KAVC started the final with gusto taking the first set 25-19 but KCC pulled back to clinch the second set 20-25 with towering Carol Atim making more than half of the points with back court drops and energetic spikes that often caught KAVC blockers off gourd.

Although KAVC recovered to take the third set, KCC looked better with well distributed balls to take the day 3-2 and recover the trophy they lost to KAVC in the final last year. The two sides have met nine times since 2001 in the final of the memorial tournament and KAVC have won five.

"We started well but we lost it when some of my players started issuing their own instructions to colleagues on the court and I was reduced to a spectator," KAVC coach Sam Meya said.

The players, he said, totally ignored my match plan.
