Nigeria: FG Names Board for Nitel

Abuja — Following Monday's revocation of the sale of 51 per cent of the shares of NITEL/MTEL to Transcorp Plc, the Federal Government yesterday constituted a Technical Board of Management for the national telecommunications carrier.

The Technical Board, chaired by the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Information and Communication, Alhaji Alkali will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the companies in the interim, pending the completion of the on-going core investor sale process.

Other members of the board are:

The Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE), Dr. Christopher Anyanwu, Director General, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Steve Oronsaye, the BPE Director of Information and Communication, Ibrahim Kashim, the Senior Special Assistant on Economic matters to Vice Presiden Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Sam Worlu, Representative of the Chairman,

National Council on Privatisation, the Managing Director, NIGCOMSAT, and an Acting Managing Director to be appointed for NITEL.
